Infrastructure Conclave 2012

With an objective of enhancing the industry academia interface, School of Petroleum Management, Gandhinagar organized the Infrastructure Conclave 2012 in association with gold sponsors Essar and FTC Media, media partners Oil & Maritime, Indian Infrastructure, Gujarat Infrastructure and Indian Ports and Infrastructure, and knowledge partner Nexgen. The conclave was set in motion with Mr. R. K. Jha, Director, Gujarat International Finance Tech-City (GIFT) at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar. He deliberated upon synergy between the economic growth and development of infrastructure sector supported by the 11th and the 12th Five Year Plan. He also stressed upon the challenges of financing an infrastructure project and how liberalized taxation policies and public private partnership can bring reform in this sector.

The conclave had four sessions and witnessed eminent leaders across the value chain that ignited the young minds on diverse thought processes. The First Session, chaired by Mr. Jayesh Buch, Resident Director-Gujarat, Essar Group, dealt with developing Ports & Logistics Infrastructure including greenfield ports, bottlenecks in port operations, vertical integration in the coal supply chain and synergetic development of Ports and SEZ, Infrastructure Financing and Business opportunities in infrastructure. Second Session tracked the insights of Infrastructure Finance addressing the needs for the development in energy and power sector, challenges in debt financing and financial challenges in the port business operations. Third Session, chaired by Mr. Sunil Parekh, Advisor, Zydus Group, Crisil, Suzlon energy, Monitor Group, opened the discussion for business opportunities in infrastructure sector spanning over the trends in Indian Logistics Industry, DMIC, and integrated logistics in offshore Oil & Gas Industry. The Final Session, chaired by Dr. D. M. Pestonjee, Ex-Professor, IIM Ahmedabad, focused on creating next generation energy professionals through talent management in the sector by creating the leadership pipeline.

The conclave was also attended by numerous industry listeners and students from various colleges across India. It gave an opportunity to not only to discuss and tap the opportunities of the infrastructure sector but also led the foundation for upcoming research.
